Facebook Co-Founder Renounces Citizenship To Avoid Taxes
0At least that’s what the well loved opinion is!
Remember the guy Andrew Garfield played in The Social Network? He’s causing all sorts of outrage right now!
Eduardo Saverin, a co-founder of Facebook, renounced his U.S. citizenship last fall and the government thinks it’s to avoid paying taxes on the billion dollar fortune he accumulated as an American.
Since he owns about 4% of Mark Zuckerberg‘s company, his stock is estimated to be worth $ 3 billion to $ 4 billion as of today and he won’t have to pay $ 600 million in capital gains tax in the future.
In response to what many consider a slap in the face of America, two senators have proposed a new bill that would slap him back with a mandatory 30% tax on future capital gains AND bar him from reentering the country.
Senator Chuck Schumer of New York told sources:
“This is a fantastic American success tale gone horribly incorrect. Eduardo Saverin wants to defriend the United States of America just to avoid paying taxes. We aren’t going to let him get away with it.”
The young billionaire swears he didn’t renounce his citizenship for any reason other than moving to Singapore. He released a statement reading:
“My choice to expatriate was based solely on my interest in working and living in Singapore, where I have been since 2009. I am obligated to and will pay hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes to the United States government. I have paid and will continue to pay any taxes due on everything I earned while a U.S. citizen. It is unfortunate that my personal choice has led to a public debate, based not on the facts, but entirely on speculation and misinformation.”
We’re not tax experts and we can’t read minds either, so we really have no thought what he was thinking. Maybe he’s telling the truth and government officials are overreacting. Or maybe they caught on to his scheme and he’s just trying to play it off.
Do U reckon the senators’ reaction is appropriate or should they wait to see if Saverin will pay the tax he owes?
Michigan Students Organize To Support Openly Gay Graduation Speaker BANNED From Ceremony
0Wow! We completely applaud these students’ courage and want to join them in saying, “Let Dominic speak!”
Classmates at Sacred Heart Academy in Pleasant Hills, Michigan are just as appalled as we are that a man named Dominic Sheahan-Stahl was disinvited from giving a commencement speech at their graduation because he got engaged to a man.
In response to their school’s bigotry, the students made a heartfelt YouTube video (above) that encourages America’s youth to fight homophobia by not tolerating despise and to #LetDominicSpeak.
School officials reportedly folded to pressure from Bishop Joseph R. Cistone of the Diocese of Saginaw, but Dominic and his 6,000 supporters aren’t.
Instead they have organized their own LGBT-friendly graduation ceremony at Central Michigan University, during which Dominic will get his chance to address those that will listen. Thanks to the all the support, the keynote speaker has never been more inspired in his life and said:
“Through the outpouring of like and support that I’ve received from family, friends, Sacred Heart students and many people I’ve never even met, I’ve come to realize that a majority of Catholics support their LGBT brothers and sisters. I was always taught that God is like and I hope that my brother and other students will come away from my speech with the knowledge that all people deserve to be treated equally.”

Diane and Josh Celebrate CK at Cannes With Isla, Naomi, and More

The stars at Cannes gathered to celebrate euphoria Calvin Klein last night at a bash held just outside the center of town at the opulent Villa St. George. A few of Calvin’s ladies were on hand for the Belvedere-sponsored bash. Model Lara Stone, who’s in the CK Jeans campaigns, made the rounds with her comedian husband David Walliams, of Small Britain. Diane Kruger fronts the brand’s beauty ads, arrived on the arm of boyfriend Joshua Jackson. It’s a busy week for Diane, one of the Cannes Film Festival judges. She managed to have a night of fun, though, and caught up with friends like Isla Fisher, Naomi Watts, and Jessica Chastain.
Fellow Australians Isla and Naomi spent a excellent part of the night chatting in a corner together. Jessica and Shailene Woodley were among the last to walk the press line before heading up into the house for drinks and snacks. Alec Baldwin arrived on the arm of his fiancée Hilaria Thomas, and they mingled with other amusing guys like Chris Rock and David Schwimmer.

Carrie Underwood & Mike Fisher’s Toronto Takeoff
0Gearing up for an outbound flight, Carrie Underwood was spotted at the Pearson International Airport in Toronto, Canada yesterday (May 17).
Joined by her husband Mike Fisher, the “Remind Me” songstress wore a Roots Canada shirt and denim shorts as she headed for her departure gate.
Carrie has been a busy girl as of late, doing live shows and promotions for her newly-released hit album Blown Away.
And Ms. Underwood is also hoping to start a family with Fisher in the future. She told press, “If I had it my way, we’d have a couple kids in a few years. And maybe once they get a small bit older, as a family, we adopt a couple more.”

After fans refused to shut up after a snippet-teasing April Fool’s Prank, Cartoon Network realized they needed to bring the block of anime known as Toonami back.
Hosted by Space Ghost Coast to Coast‘s Moltar and Toonami frontman T.O.M, series like Outlaw Star, Sailor Moon, and Dragon Ball Z had a home for loyal fans. Needless to say, violent acts of anime deprivation was at its lowest.
Beginning May 26, fans can tune into CN’s Adult Swim programming to see Cowboy Bebop, FLCL, and Fullmetal Alchemist along with other action favorites and new additions. WooHoo!
But Sailor Moon better use her moon crystal power to get on that list! We’ll just feel so wretched if it doesn’t come back!!

The 65th Cannes Film Festival is underway, and jurors Diane Kruger and Ewan McGregor gathered for a kickoff photocall yesterday. Diane was back in the spotlight for the opening gala premiere of Moonrise Kingdom, where she shared the red carpet with other Jessica Chastain, L’Oréal brand ambassador Eva Longoria, and Bruce Willis. The fun continued today as well with Rust and Bone actress Marion Cotillard stepping out to promote her project alongside Freida Pinto and Jane Fonda while Eva soaked up the sun during a rooftop photoshoot. Later in the evening Diane Kruger, Joshua Jackson, Isla Fisher and more gathered together to celebrate women in film. 0She’s known for her sexy small screen work in the “Spartacus” shows on Starz, and the lovely Katrina Law shows off her excellent looks in a feature included in the June 2012 issue of Maxim Australia.
The 27-year-ancient actress dons an array of skimpy lingerie for the Joe Deangelis shot spread lining the magazine’s pages while dishing about topics having to do with her role in “Spartacus: Vengeance”.

On if we’re going to see more of her Spartacus character, Mira, in Season Two:
“Physically speaking, I don’t reckon there’s anything left to see! You’d have to go into a different genre of film for that. But you will get to know a different side of her – let’s place it that way. She is going to be a badass this year.”
On if she had to do any intense physical training:
“I did the gladiator boot camp with the boys, and it kicked my butt. I don’t reckon I could walk for four days. I also did sword, dagger, and bow-and-arrow training.”
On if she ever feels shy about stripping down for Spartacus:
“It does make me a bit self-conscious, because you’re putting yourself out there. But my full-on frontal? I gotta tell you I feel like a bada** for doing it. Some actresses out there are like, ‘Oh, don’t ever do nudity’, but I’m proud of my body.”
Bobby Brown Sings Tribute To Whitney, Admits He Screwed Up

We can’t really choose if this is a really sweet tribute or just one of those WTF-too soon! moments…
Last night on The Tonight Show, singer Bobby Brown debuted his new single called Don’t Let Me Die…a track about his relationship with the late, fantastic Whitney Houston.
In the song, Brown, seemingly full of regret, sings how he messed up and didn’t know what he had until it was gone.

It’s certainly surprising to see terrible boy Bobby nearly out of his element — getting real with his emotions, opening up and swallowing his pride. Has he finally manned up??
We’re going to hope this was a heartfelt tribute to his like lost and not just some way to jumpstart his career again…but seeing as his album, The Masterpiece, is set for release June 5, we can’t be too sure.
If anything, we hope that this song provided some sort of music therapy for Bobby.

Diane Kruger teamed up with Ewan McGregor and designer Jean Paul Gauttier for an appearance on France’s Le Grand Journal earlier today. The trio, who are also Cannes Film Festival judges, spoke with journalists about this year’s competition, which kicked off yesterday with the star-studded premiere of Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom. Speaking perfect French, Diane bubbled with excitement about the upcoming films while Jean Paul critiqued the red carpet fashion – catch up on all the Cannes Film Festival photos!
Following Diane’s sit down interview she met up with boyfriend Joshua Jackson. Diane changed up her look once again and stepped out in a red dress at a Calvin Klein bash. Josh and Diane cuddled close during the party and seemed to be in high spirits. He’s coming off last week’s season Fringe finale, and will return in the Fall for the show’s fifth, and final, season.

The track is used in the ad, out now, where Calvin crowd surfs with some professional soccer players, and will be featured on his third album to be released later this year!

Taylor Swift Drops $4 Million For a Good Cause
0Giving back in a major way, Taylor Swift is donating $ 4 million to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, according to an announcement from the institution on Thursday (May 17).
The donation made by the country cutie marks the largest grant given to the museum by an artist, and the money is said to help fund an exhibit and classroom space dubbed as the “Taylor Swift Education Center” – which is expected to open in 2014.
In a statement, the museum’s director, Kyle Young, said, “It will allow us to do what we do better, serve more people, develop new programs and I’m pleased to say that as we talked through this opportunity with Taylor, she very much wants to be involved in an advisory capacity in what we do. Is there a better person out there who’s in touch with a young audience?”
Swift has been involved with the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum for quite some time, as she held one of her first public performances in the venue’s plaza while also attending a ceremony during which she signed her recording contract at the institution.
