Box Office: “Taken 2″ Holds Slim Lead on Overachieving “Argo”
0Still filling seats after its chart topping theatrical debut one week prior, “Taken 2″ continues to reign at the box office while taking a slim lead to start the weekend of October 12-14, 2012.
The Olivier Megaton directed crime drama starring Liam Neeson as a retired CIA operative is lined up for an $ 8 million Friday with early forecasts pointing to a sophomore weekend total of $ 24.2 million.
Hot on its heels is the Ben Affleck starring/directed thriller “Argo,” as the just-released motion picture about Tony Mendez’s account of the rescue of six U.S. diplomats during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis has higher-than-expected first day sales pegged at $ 7.5 million with a $ 22.6 million projected opening weekend.
Filling out the top five at the box office in earmarked earnings are Adam Sandler and Selena Gomez’s animated family comedy “Hotel Transylvania” ($ 16 million) in third, followed by two newcomers with the Ethan Hawke starring supernatural horror/thriller “Sinister” ($ 14 million) in fourth and Salma Hayek and Kevin James’ underperforming comic caper “Here Comes the Boom” ($ 12 million) in fifth.
Box Office: “The Expendables 2″ Takes Slim Lead Over “The Bourne Legacy”
0While it doesn’t appear as if the sequel will be able to better its predecessor, “The Expendables 2″ is still on track to steal away the top spot at the box office over the weekend of August 17-19, 2012.
The testosterone filled action caper starring Sylvester Stallone , Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jason Statham pulled in an estimated $ 11.5 million on Friday with an expected $ 30 million weekend total being shy of the $ 34.8 million opening mustered up by the first film.
Bumped down to runner-up status is last weekend’s winner, “The Bourne Legacy,” as the latest installment in the Tony Gilroy directed action/adventure franchise is keeping things fascinating thanks to an $ 11.3 million Friday pegging predicted sophomore earnings at $ 29 million.
Filling out the top five at the box office in forecasted totals are the newly released LAIKA 3D stop-motion comedy thriller “ParaNorman” ($ 15.3 million) and the Whitney Houston/Jordin Sparks featured drama “Sparkle” ($ 15.1 million), followed by Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis’ political comedy “The Campaign” ($ 13.1 million).
Also of note, the well-received Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton helmed Disney drama “The Odd Life of Timothy Green” is lined up for $ 13 million in ticket sales by Sunday – though it had a two day jumpstart after having been released on Wednesday rather than Friday.

Univision And CBS Lead Tuesday Night Ratings!
0Uh oh, CBS! There’s a new kid in town!
On Monday night, Spanish language network Univision was #1 in the ratings, thanks to the two-hour of finale of La Fuerza del Destino (The Strength of Destiny).
Then last night, CBS improved in the ratings thanks to the two-hour 34th annual Kennedy Center Honors broadcast, which brought in 9.7 million viewers and a 1.4 rating in adults 18-49.
The network shared their victory with Univision, which was #1 in the ratings again last night (along with CBS), thanks to its telenovela Una Familia con Suerte (A Family With Luck), which landed a 1.7 rating in adults 18-49 for its two-hour broadcast!
Sounds like the networks better step up their game if they wanna compete with Univision! Maybe they should start airing telenovelas as well! Ha!
What did U watch last night? Were U tuned in to Univision???
