Music Producer Timbaland Dishes Out On His Dark Secrets

0

Famed producer Timbaland has battled many things in his career.

But he has also been a smashing sucess in the music business.

Working with the likes of Justin Timberlake, Missy Elliot, Nelly Furtado, and Dr. Dre, he has been a force since the early 90s.

With E!’s Right Hollywood Tale, Timbaland reveals some of his demons.

He admits to loving the late Aaliyah but chose to be a huge brother type.

He states the following:

When I first met Aaliyah—it time for the world to hear this, I’m gonna give a small secret—I was in like with her. I said, But I’m not…She just a baby, I’m ancient. I said to myself, ‘I’m just gonna be her brother.’ Oh man, I was fightin’, I was fightin’ a lot—a huge war. But I loved Aaliyah.

Aaliyah signed a record deal at 12 and allegedly married R. Kelly at 15.

She tragically passed away at 22 in a 2001 plane crash.

Timbaland also talks about his weight and his suicidal thoughts.

I was nearly 400 pounds. Who wants to be a 400-pound black man? I’m looking in the mirror, my breast is larger than a girl breast. And I was saying, ‘That ain’t cool.’ So I got very depressed, like suicidal depressed.

But now, the superstar producer is married and healthier.

Timbaland’s Tale airs Tuesday, December 20th.

EXCLUSIVE First Listen! Chord Overstreet’s First Original, Solo Music!

0

Remember when Chord Overstreet took a hiatus from Glee to focus on other projects? Seems he did something pretty impressive with his time off!

We have EXCLUSIVELY here at PerezHilton.com the first listen to Chord’s first solo song. It’s an original piece called Gorgeous Girl that Chord just finished recording over the weekend.

And as huge Gleeks, we HAD to get our hands on it!

The song is very pleasant, very listenable and pretty excellent for his first time out. Truthfully, we were somewhat convinced that he would take the country route considering who is papa is, but if this is him trying to pave his own way, he did a nice job.

Check out our EXCLUSIVE first listen to Gorgeous Girl in the video (above)!

Taylor Swift Covers Billboard’s Women In Music Issue

0

Just days removed from receiving her honor during a New York City ceremony, Taylor Swift adorns the cover of the December 2011 Woman of the Year issue of Billboard magazine’.

The country superstar rocks a cute black frock for the front page shot with a quote alongside her reading, “This is a year of my life I’m going to want to remember.”

Highlights from Taylor’s interview – in which she speaks about topics including role models, future plans and her current place in life – are as follows. For more, be sure to visit Billboard!

On where she sees herself on a scale of girl to woman:
“Growing up in this position, making music, writing songs and having everyone hear what I’m going through since I was about 16 years ancient, now I’m 21 about to be 22 — I wouldn’t have had it any other way. On a scale of being a girl or teenager or woman, I never tried to be the one to mark myself which of those three I was. I’ve just tried to grow up in the most natural and gradual process that I possibly can and make choices I feel are right for me and my fans. Whether I’m a woman now, or whatever, is up to my fans to choose, not for me. I really haven’t felt the need to make some bold statement of maturity or make the “dark” record yet.”

On the women she considers to be her role models:
“I have a lot of role models. Faith Hill is a huge role model. Reese Witherspoon is a role model of mine-she’s not in music, but I like everything she stands for. Shawn Colvin is a huge model for me. Her writing has been consistently fantastic and thoughtful and wistful and gorgeous. And also-[he's] not a girl-but Kris Kristofferson has been a huge role model for me. When I look at people who I feel have really lived their lives and recorded their lives in music so perfectly, those are my role models. They’ve all taught me lessons just by example.”

On whether she’s ever had a year she just wanted to forget:
“Not an entire year, but I’ve had a six-month period I’ve wanted to forget-whether you’re talking about criticism or an dreadful breakup or whatever trauma you happen to be going through. Every single one of us has a few months here or there that feel like dark months. For me, what helps me with sad times or frustration or rejection is writing songs about every one of those emotions, and for some reason, after I do that and I’m proud of the song, things make a small more sense to me.”

On whether she has any thought where she wants to be in 2018:
“I like that Dolly Parton plans out her life in seven-year plans. I thought that was brilliant. There’s so much about Dolly Parton that every female artist should look to, whether it’s reading her quotes or reading her interviews or going to one of her live shows. She’s been such an incredible example to every female songwriter out there. As far as in the next seven years, I’ll be 28 or 29, so I don’t know. It just depends who I meet. But I’ve always hoped that I continue to write music for the rest of my life, and the clearest future I see is always my next album because I’m always obsessed with the latest song I’ve written, my newest thought about the newest thing for my newest album. That’s been my obsession for the last six months to a year.”

On whether she considers herself to be a role model:
“As you enter down a career path it becomes very clear what that career path is going to question of you. One of the things that is a huge part of making music and putting it out into the world is understanding that you now have a role in shaping the lives of the next generation. And you can either accept that role or you can deny it and ignore it and say it’s a parent’s job to raise their kids. But the reality is what you wear matters. If you’re a singer and on TV and in the living room of some 12-year-ancient girl, she’s watching what you’re wearing and saying and doing.

For me, when Faith Hill performed on an awards show, everything mattered-everything she said, did, wore, I tried to copy it. That’s what small girls do, so there is a huge responsibility and I take it very seriously.”

Is Florence + The Machine’s New Music Video Racist?

0

According to an on-line debate that has erupted on the YouTube page for the clip, then POSSIBLY!

That’s right, upon the release of the music video for No Light, No Light, the new single from Florence + The Machine off of her new album, Ceremonials, many users of the social networking site singled out a scene, featuring singer Florence Welch being harmed by a voodoo doll before being rescued by an all-white choir of young boys – because of the thematic connotations, as well as one actor wearing ‘black face and body paint!’

onaheatwave observes:

“Oh man, it’s a excellent thing those small white choir boys were there to save her from that huge, black voodoo doing black man! I like the song, but I also will not be rewatching.”

25karibear maintains:

“Its a video about a girl and her demons, of loving someone and that moment you realize they never felt the same. If all you get from this is some stupid race accusation, then maybe you should restrict yourself to videos of Sesame St. characters.”

But, chinklicious counters:

“Art can be offensive too. The black man as a mysterious voodoo artist, a bag over his head so he is dehumanized…t he black man chasing the white woman who falls into the safe hands of a gaggle of white school children while the black offender is shrouded in dark shadows.

“If this isn’t subtle (or not so subtle) racism then I don’t know what is. This is the kind of stuff that people watch and subconsciously internalize, and is ultimately projected as outwards racism.”

Inneresting arguments, right?

Watch the video for yourself (above)!

What do U reckon?? Is there some racism going on here??

JoJo’s “Disaster” Music Video: Watch Now!

0

She’s been hard at work on her next album Jumping Trains, and JoJo just released the video to her groundbreaking new song titled “Disaster.”

In the piece, the “Leave (Get Out)” singer gets hot and heavy with a hot tough guy played by Rafi Gavron.

Of picking her like interest for the video, JoJo told Celebuzz, “In choosing our leading man, I wanted it to be someone that was genuinely a rough-around-the-edges kinda guy,” she said. “Manicured ‘pretty boys’ needed NOT apply. I had seen Rafi Gavron in ‘Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist’ and thought he was a fantastic actor and a natural choice for me. He embodied the edge and rugged sexiness that I wanted my guy to have. I wanted him to feel a bit like a terrible boy from Boston, and although Rafi is from the UK, he pulled it off perfectly.”

Jumping Trains is set to be released in early 2012.
