When I first picked up this book, I wasn’t expecting much, just another book that would just sit on the shelf collecting dust. But when I started reading it, I couldn’t place it down. It’s one of those books that you can really feel like you’re in the book. I loved the book so much, I was sad when it finished, I wanted to read more. Then ending nearly killed me, I want to know what happened! But I heard there is going to be a sequal so that will be better. All I have to say, is its a really excellent book, and if you havn’t read it, you should.
I read Twilight before all of the hype, before anyone even knew that Stephenie existed. I went to a book signing not long after the book was released and there were only about twenty people there but the second time I saw her a few years later there were upwards of 400 people! When I first read this book I wrote the following review: This book was recommended to me by a friend, and her description was so intriguing that I ordered it straight away and I must say that I was far from disappointed. From the time I turned the first page I was hooked and I’m worried it may have affected my ability to study for finals because I was so wrapped up in the book, staying up to all hours of the night to read. I absolutely loved the characters, Edward in particular. He was so smooth and perfect, exactly the way I would imagine a vampire. I also thought that Bella was very simple to identify with. The ending was wonderful and left me wanting more, I can’t wait until New Moon is released! I loved the romance as well, the forbidden like. This is a wonderful tale and I highly recommend it, even if you are someone who tends to shy away from vampires or scary tales. But, since then I have been forced to change my opinion, all the publicity and attention Twilight has received has ruined the series for me completely! I despised the movie version mostly because of the terrible casting choices and all of the Twilight merchandise has begun to get on my nerves. Still, I thought that this book deserved a small more than my current jaded view, which is why I added my initial reaction to it.
so im gonna hafta admit that ive never really read tales about vampires before, but this was the best book ive read. I recieved it as a gift for christmas after i showed it to my mom, the day after christmas i started it, and couldnt place it down the entire day…i finished it that night. The characters in this book were simple to relate to, and i found myself falling for edward cullen. This is the best book i ever read, and it was sad to see it end..i highly reccommend it
This book is a guilty pleasure! The negative reviewers are, I am sad to say, right about the downfalls of the tale…Bella does like Edward at the expense of her life, her needs, her desires, and she plays the helpless victim role over and over. Edward is domineering and controlling of her, and the anti-feminist themes that this makes make me cringe. Therefore, I could see this book being harmful for anyone who does not have a very excellent sense of self. But if you know who you are and what you stand for, this book will do no harm to you. I read this book in 4 days and loved every minute of it! I reckon that in order to really delight in this book, you need to frame it as a fantasy, because that is what it is. It is a hot, passionate fantasy made even hotter by the fact that all of Edward and Bella’s physical contact has an edge of danger. This book is oozing with passion, and I like like loved it! Yes, girls, we do not need to be saved by a man, but darn it it sure is romantic! I reckon that the draw of this book, for me, was the way it made me feel when reading it. As strong and independent women who can support themselves in the world on our own, we have been taught to be skeptical or to even avoid the thought that we need like to complete us, that we can’t live without like, that sometimes we need to be rescued. But, I reckon that women also need to remember that we are women, we are feminine, beatiful, and part of feminism means that we have the right to make our own choices, and if we want to fantasize about right like and being rescued, that is our perrogative. This book helped me to reconnect with that part of my feminity, and that I reckon is what I really loved about it. This is also probably the same reason that I liked the movie Pretty Woman, and that I sometimes secretly watch the Girls Next Door on E. I have already ordered books 2 and 3 and look forward to reading them.
I have read a lot of vampire fiction and the romances are the best. Who can resist the lure of the untouchable? I went into my local Barnes & Noble last week looking for my weekly dose of supernatural romance and as I was leaving, the cashier grabbed my hand and said “you have to read this book called Twighlight, I’ve made all of the employees here read it”. So I was game but a small disappointed that the book was in the young adult section of the store. What a wonderful surprise. It was a middle aged woman who suggested the book, so I figured on a lark that I would give it a chance. Once I started reading, I couldn’t place it down! Twighlight is a large book but I reckon I read the whole thing in about four hours flat. I hope there is a sequel so that we know what happens between Bella and Edward because there is just so much unresolved and still so much to be explored. These are the ultimate star-crossed lovers and I was glad to live in their world for just a small bit.
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer is about a girl named Bella who just went to the small town of Forks, Washington to live with her dad. At her new school, Forks High School, she makes some friends rather quickly but at lunch she can’t help but notice a table with a group of people, all of them nearly too gorgeous to believe. One of them sits by her in her biology class, his name is Edward Cullen. He doesn’t really show any emotion to anyone, but he especially seems to despise Bella for no apparent reason.
Once Edward and Bella start talking she figures out that Edward is a vampire and he is mostly attracted to her blood out of everyone else in this world. Bella is so in like with him that she can’t stay away from him, although she knows that every second she is with Edward is every second of her life that she is putting in danger.
It’s no surprise that teenagers everywhere are so involved in the Twilight series. The book didn’t catch my attention straight away but once I got into it I couldn’t stop reading. This book has so many intense parts that I couldn’t breath at the end! I loved Twilight and can not wait to start New Moon!
It had been a while since I really read a book from the teen section of the bookstore. I must admit that getting older involves a fantastic deal of marauding through stacks of books in many other sections besides this one. The search for fascinating books is much hard and more time consuming, but, it is all the more rewarding when you do come across exactly what you were looking for.
I was very surprised when I really came across this book and was touched by how familiar it was to me when I read the inside cover. I was so excited to find a book that resemled greatly the books that I had read when I was fixated on young adult novels. I had stopped being interested in those and had went on to more mature work, such as classics, of course, and modern works on literature and science fiction…since I must admit,sci-fi is my preference. The reason behind my change in book preference was that I felt that no more books in that young adult section interested me anymore. I also felt that the new books weren’t as eye catching as the books once used to be. I had come to believe that I was completely done with the young adult books, having read all the books that seemed to interest me. But, finding this book has lead me back to the young adult section of the bookstore and it has helped me to realize that the world of young adult novels is not completely deminished.
In reading this book, I have recovered that interested that would inspire my walk to the back of the bookstore to find works that were categorized as young adult. I had left thinking that I would never again find myself in that area. But, there I was, after reading about this book on this very site. I found myself unable to stay away and had to read it.
Now as for my opinion on the book, Twilight is a complete delight to read. For being a work about a completely unrealistic subject, all of the characters seemed so real in the deliverance. I felt that, even though Edward was a vampire, he acted more “normal” than a lot of vampires described in works. Even with his unnaturally excellent looks and weird powers, you still feel that he could be someone, of flesh and blood, and that he could no sooner walk right into your life and charm you. Isabella is a pleasure to get to know. Hearing the tale from her point of view is a real treat, since the very character is completely ridiculous with her akwardness and clumsiness, but, at the same time we can all be envious of her undeniable beauty and inner-strength. She is the very life of the work, with her open attitude and steadfast opinions.
I would encourage people to read this book. It is well worth your while because it is truly a fantastic tale. It may, at times, seem unoriginal, with the cliche of the “girl-meets-boy-but-can’t-be-with-him-because…”, but the tale is truly intriguing and one gets caught up in the innocent, yet completely perilous relationship that is the like between Edward and Isabella.
My one complaint though, even though I do give five stars,is that the author did not do so much character development with the supporting cast. I want to hear more about the rest of the Cullen family, especially Alice, who is my personaly favorite. I want to get the chance to see the tale from another point of view at some point. But, it is still a fantastic read. Thankfully, I have learned that this book is the very beginning of a trilogy of books that the author made, so I am very much looking forward to contributing more money to this authors pocket by buying the rest of her books when they are released. : )
All I can say is: OH.MY.GOD. It was wonderful. I laughed, I cried, I read it ten times. I have never read a vamp. book as excellent as this one. Anne Rice writes wonderful books- but this one is just so modern that it’s simpler to relate to. Thats all there is to it: this book is fantastic. Just have to say- I can’t wait to read it again. Favorite line: “As if you could outrun me!”
OK, in reference to what someone else wrote about Bella being so normal and everything, not having anything special about her. I reckon that was the author’s point. In the beginning of the book Bella points out that, ” if she looked like a girl from Phoenix should, she could have worked it to her advantage. But physically, I’d never fit in anywhere. I should be tan, sporty, blond, – a volleyball player, or a cheerleader perhaps- all the things that go with living in the valley of the sun.”
The author meant to make her somewhat normal I reckon. I mean Bella did not expect to be crowded around every day with boys asking her if she wanted to go to a dance. She was NORMAL. And that was what made it special. She didn’t epect to fall in like with a NON NORMAL person, a vampire.
I reckon that’s the point. It was a excellent book.
